Yarmouk Media Students Participate in a Training Workshop on Press Coverage of the Electoral Process
In cooperation with the French Agency for Media Cooperation, several students of the university newspaper, "Yarmouk Press", and Yarmouk FM radio at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Yarmouk University participated in a training workshop organized by the Independent Electoral Commission concerning press coverage of the electoral process. Sharaf Al-Din Abu Rumman, the Director of Information, Communication, and Awareness at the Commission, stated that such meetings and workshops are expected to transfer knowledge about the mechanisms of media coverage of the electoral process to all colleagues and journalists. Also, he pointed out that there is a clear absence of the specialized media in the elections, which is a problem facing different EMBs around the world. Accordingly, he recommended imparting knowledge about the law, procedures, and other related legal terms of such an issue.
Likewise, Nasser Habashneh, the Director of the Electoral Operations Directorate, explained that the electoral process includes reviewing all inputs of the electoral process before the next round and evaluating it with the participation of journalists, local observers, and international observers. Moreover, the Tunisian Ambassador in Amman, Khaled Al Sahli, and his accompanying delegation attended part of this training workshop. They praised the Kingdom's efforts in providing the necessary assistance and facilities to conduct the electoral process for the Tunisian community residing in Jordan. The Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, Dr. Khalaf Al-Tahat, said that the faculty, based on the general policy plan of Yarmouk University, is always keen to communicate with various national and international institutions to enhance their relations, serve their students and programs, and develop their achievements. He pointed out that this training workshop is gaining importance through the interaction and participation of volunteer students in Yarmouk Press and Yarmouk FM, as they will cover the upcoming elections.
As part of a joint project executed by Yarmouk University and the University of Paris (I) as well as the French National Center for Scientific Research, the team of the Department of Archeology at the Faculty of Archeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University completed the second excavation stage at Umm Al Sarb site in Mafraq governorate. The director of Yarmouk’s team, Dr. Khalid Al-Bashayra, pointed out that the archaeological excavations for the second stage of 2019 lasted for three weeks (12-31 / 10/2019). He stated that the project included training master students of the team on the excavation and archaeological documentation of the site, thus preparing them to use (Total Station) gadget in the cadastral applications and provide a preliminary reading of the pottery discovered. Likewise, Dr. Maan Amoush, an associate professor of Islamic archeology, pointed out that Ayyubid and Mamluk Islamic pottery (handmade (HMPW), as well as glazed, Byzantine, and Roman pottery discovered in the second season of 2019) indicates the excellence of the site of Umm al-Sirb in terms of settlement during such periods.
Noteworthy that the various archaeological finds will be studied and analyzed in the coming period. They will be borrowed from the Directorate of Archeology of Mafraq to be linked with the results and data of previous projects. This will help clarify the nature of the intensive settlement witnessed in the excavation area at the site of Umm al-Sarb, thus inspiring the team to continue planning for field work in the future. However, the team of Yarmouk University included the field technician Mousa Serbel, photographer Hussein Dibajeh, students Wassim Jaradat and Heba Abu Dalu from the Department of Archeology and a representative of the Department of Archeology of Mafraq Antiquities Office Mohammed Al-Zahed. The French team was represented by Dr. Pierre-Marie Blanc, Dr. Pierre Jilento, Dr. Apolin Vernet, and Dr. Gurgen Davtian.
President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Zeidan Kafafi, is proud of the Deanship of Students Affairs and its distinguished team regarding their ability to refine the personality of university students. He acknowledged the Deanship's way of qualifying students by enhancing their skills and talents that enable them to serve the community as well as the entire country. This event took place because of gifting Yarmouk presidency Khalil Al Kofahi's painting of His Majesty, King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah. The president explained that the university presidency depends on the deanship of Students Affairs to fulfill the needs and aspirations of university students and help them contribute to the nation, complying with the visions and aspirations of the nation's leader. Moreover, Kafafi expressed his belief in the qualifications and abilities of the artist, Al-Kofahi, who has always been organizing extracurricular programs and activities that benefit students. However, the meeting was attended by the Vice Presidents: Prof. Fawaz Al-Abed Al-Haq and Prof. Anis Khasawneh, and the Director of Public Relations and Media, Mr. Mukhlis Al-Abini.
The President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Zeidan Kafafi, met the Pakistani Ambassador in Amman, Mr. Taimur Ahmad Hassan, and discussed possible future cooperation between the University and the Pakistani Embassy in Amman as well as the Pakistani educational institutions. During the meeting, Kafafi reviewed the establishment of Yarmouk University, the establishment of its faculties, and its academic programs. He then stressed out that the university is keen to extend bridges of cooperation with various educational institutions and that Yarmouk hosts 39 thousand students, including 43 different nationalities. Also, he pointed out the willingness of Yarmouk to receive a number of Pakistani students to study in various academic disciplines, to exchange faculty members, and to attract more Pakistani students wishing to learn Arabic in the Arabic Language Program for Speakers of Other Languages at the University's Language Center.
For his part, the ambassador stressed the embassy’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Yarmouk University for its distinguished scientific reputation. He then stressed the importance of extending the collaboration bridges in the field of exchanging students and faculty members. He also pointed out the possibility of holding lectures and scientific seminars in areas of common interest so that the relations of linking Jordan and Pakistan are deepened.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at Yarmouk University organized an event entitled "We Care about Your Mental Health". During the event, Dr. Khalil Al-Zyoud, Counselor in Family and Mental Health, was hosted along with Dr. Malek Al-Tarifi from Zarqa’s Private University. The lecturers explained the importance of organizing family relations and the ideal ways to deal with social problems. They also talked about dealing with psychological problems in general considering that stress and study are the most important factors that affect university students’ mental health. However, at the end of the event, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Mervat Al-Sous, thanked the lecturers and organizers of the event.
